The BUSY School is part of The BUSY Group, a not-for-profit organisation presenting over 47 years as a community partner providing employment services, vocational education and training, apprenticeships, mentoring, Inclusive Employment Support, and allied health services.
The BUSY School is an independent Special Assistance School with 10 campuses across Queensland and New Zealand, providing an alternative program for Year 11 and 12 students who are disengaged or at risk of disengaging from education. Our program has expanded to include The BUSY School Online (TBSO) offering flexible access to our program for all students across Queensland.
Each campus provides a supportive and safe learning environment for young people by providing them with an education program that includes vocational education and training (VET), work experience and opportunities for school-based apprenticeships and traineeships. Our team support the students to gain employability and transferability skills to increases their sense of wellbeing, resilience, belonging, academic achievement, career exploration and employment outcomes.
Our teams’ focus is centred at re-engaging our students to learn, remain eligible for a Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) and gain employment or further training outcomes upon student’s graduation from Year 12.

About the Role
As the Assistant Head of Student Wellbeing, you’ll play a key role in early identification, case coordination, referral pathways, staff capability‑building and compliance with child safety and wellbeing frameworks. You’ll work closely with campus teams to ensure every student receives timely, appropriate and culturally responsive support. You’ll help shape a whole‑school approach to wellbeing that is preventative, evidence‑informed and grounded in youth‑centred practice. You’ll strengthen consistency across campuses, support frontline wellbeing staff, and build strong partnerships with BUSY Health and community providers — all to ensure young people feel safe, connected and supported to re‑engage with learning.
This role involves:
Implementing wellbeing frameworks — Support the rollout of a whole‑school Student Wellbeing and Support framework aligned with trauma‑informed, youth‑centred best practice.
Leading and coaching wellbeing teams — Provide day‑to‑day guidance to School Engagement Officers, Education Youth Workers and other campus‑based support staff.
Strengthening wellbeing and crisis processes — Support consistent pastoral care, wellbeing and crisis‑response procedures, escalating high‑risk matters appropriately.
Coordinating early identification and referrals — Support triage, referral and coordinated supports for students experiencing mental health, behavioural or psychosocial challenges.
Building internal and external partnerships — Maintain strong relationships with BUSY Health and community agencies to enhance student access to services.
Ensuring child safety compliance — Support Principals and staff with mandatory reporting, safety processes and legislative obligations.
Collaborating on integrated plans — Work with inclusion, learning support and teaching teams to align wellbeing, engagement and learning needs.
Supporting consistent case management — Strengthen documentation, review cycles and coordinated planning across campuses.
Using data to inform practice — Support the collection and use of wellbeing and engagement data to guide interventions and continuous improvement.
Building staff capability — Contribute to professional learning and resources that strengthen trauma‑informed practice and engagement strategies.
Promoting wellbeing initiatives — Support programs and communications that encourage help‑seeking, inclusion and psychological safety.

Desired Skills and Experience
About You
Experience in student wellbeing, youth work, education or health settings
Strong understanding of trauma‑informed practice, adolescent mental health and the needs of disengaged young people
Experience in case coordination, referral pathways and multi‑agency collaboration
Excellent communication, documentation and reporting capability
Ability to work effectively across multiple sites and support consistent practice
High integrity, discretion and professional judgement
Commitment to child safety, wellbeing and WHS obligations
Qualifications in Youth Work, Psychology, Social Work, Education or a related field
3+ years’ experience in wellbeing, engagement or youth support roles
Blue Card
National Police Check
Open driver’s licence
