About The BUSY School…

The BUSY School is part of The BUSY Group, a not-for-profit organisation presenting over 47 years as a community partner providing employment services, vocational education and training, apprenticeships, mentoring, NDIS, disability employment support, and allied health services.

The BUSY School is an independent Special Assistance School with 10 campuses across Queensland and New Zealand, providing an alternative program for Year 11 and 12 students who are disengaged or at risk of disengaging from education. Our program has expanded to include The BUSY School Online (TBSO) offering flexible access to our program for all students across Queensland.

Each campus provides a supportive and safe learning environment for young people by providing them with an education program that includes vocational education and training (VET), work experience and opportunities for school-based apprenticeships and traineeships. Our team support the students to gain employability and transferability skills to increases their sense of wellbeing, resilience, belonging, academic achievement, career exploration and employment outcomes.

Our teams’ focus is centred at re-engaging our students to learn, remain eligible for a Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) and gain employment or further training outcomes upon student’s graduation from Year 12.

The BUSY School Auckland is seeking a passionate and committed New Zealand Registered English Subject Teacher to join our growing team supporting young people to re-engage with learning and build positive futures.

At The BUSY School, we specialise in working with Year 11, 12 and 13 students who have disengaged or are at the risk of disengaging from traditional schooling, providing a supportive environment with smaller classes, strong relationships and real pathways into employment, apprenticeships and further training.

This role is ideal for a teacher who values relationships, flexibility, and practical pathways to success.

About the Role

As an English Subject Teacher at The BUSY School Auckland, you will play a key role in supporting students to build literacy, confidence, and the skills they need for future pathways.

You will work with small class sizes and a supportive multidisciplinary team to deliver engaging learning programmes aligned with NCEA literacy standards and vocational pathways.

This role goes beyond traditional classroom teaching - it is about building strong relationships, restoring confidence in learning and supporting students to see a positive future for themselves.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering engaging English and literacy programmes aligned with NCEA
  • Delivering a Vocational Pathways Programme to ensure students are regularly developing skills needed for their chosen vocation or industry.
  • Supporting students to achieve literacy requirements and academic success
  • Creating a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment
  • Working collaboratively with the Education Youth Workers and support staff
  • Supporting students to develop confidence, resilience and employability skills
  • Contributing to the wider wellbeing and engagement of students

Desired Skills and Experience

About You

We are looking for an educator who is passionate about making a difference.

You will demonstrate:

  • New Zealand Teacher Registration and a current practising certificate
  • Experience teaching secondary English or literacy (for CAA)
  • Strong relationship-building skills with young people
  • A commitment to supporting disengaged or at-risk learners
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • The ability to create engaging and flexible learning experiences
  • A positive, student-centred approach

Experience working with alternative education settings, vocationals pathways or youth engagement programmes is highly desirable but not essential.
